Update from Girlguiding Midlands 08/04/2024
Clare Shinton, Girlguiding Midlands Region Chief
“Following a recent discussion with the Walesby Forest Activity Centre, we would like to clarify the following for our membership,”
“Walesby Forest Activity Centre in Nottinghamshire is an approved venue for Girlguiding residentials during the restricted times for organised groups and membership groups. In line with our residential policies the group leader will be required to risk assess the venue and the activities planned for their group,”
“For any residentials being planned outside these restricted times please contact the Nottinghamshire OAA in line with the normal Girlguiding process.”
Anne Llywelyn-Jones, Deputy Chief Commissioner
“What this means is that for youth groups at restricted times, there is no need for discussion with the OAA. For bookings at other times, the OAA will give guidance on risk assessments and to make sure units on residentials meet our policies. It does not mean that groups cannot attend at other times.”
We are very pleased that Girlguiding has confirmed that for youth groups at restricted times, there is no need for discussion with the Outdoor Activities Advisor (OAA). For bookings at other times, the OAA will give guidance on risk assessments and to make sure units on residentials meet Girlguiding policies.
Walesby Forest is very grateful to have the clarification provided, and to maintain our excellent working relationship with Girlguiding.
