A major safety improvement project is underway along the bridlepath near Robin Hood’s Cave, with Walesby Forest leading efforts to make the popular route safer for children, families, and school groups.

The project aligns with wider improvement works being delivered by Nottinghamshire County Council and focuses on installing additional 6-foot-high security fencing along sections of the bridlepath.

With thousands of visitors using the route each year, Walesby Forest has identified a clear need for further safety measures to protect young people and vulnerable users.

To deliver the project, 900 metres of security fencing is required for £6,500 per 100 metres, bringing the total funding requirement to £58,500.

Match My Project is supporting Walesby Forest by engaging local businesses, contractors, and partners to help fund or deliver the work.

“This bridlepath is used by families, schools, and visitors from across the county,” said Guy Laurie, CEO of Walesby Forest. “By improving safety along the route, we’re helping ensure people can enjoy Walesby Forest with greater confidence — especially children and young people.”

Call for Business Support

Walesby Forest and Match My Project are now calling on businesses and organisations to get involved by:

  • Sponsoring part or all the fencing installation
  • Providing in-kind support, including materials, labour, or installation expertise

Contributors will be supporting a highly visible, long-term safety improvement in one of Nottinghamshire’s most historic and well-loved natural areas.

Protecting Access for the Future

The fencing project will help safeguard outdoor learning, recreational access, and tourism for future generations.

Businesses or organisations interested in supporting the project are encouraged to contact Guy Laurie on admin@walesbyforest.org.uk to discuss sponsorship or partnership opportunities.
