The COVID-19 pandemic impacted our lives in many ways, however if any good was to come from the nationwide crisis it was that many of us rediscovered our love for the great outdoors.  Whether that was walking, hiking, or cycling, we reminded ourselves that our world is bigger than just four walls and there is plenty to explore outside.

Aside from the health benefits, exploring nature allows us to put away our mobiles, tablets and laptops and concentrate on being with those that we care about the most. Reconnecting with friends and family and enjoying quality time together without interruption is incredibly important.

With all that in mind, you might be wondering what sort of activities are available that you can enjoy with your family this summer. Are you looking for something new and exciting to test your wit, or something that might be a little more physically challenging?

Walesby Forest has a range of over 30 outdoor activities that you can enjoy so we’re sharing our top three activities that will allow you to have some fun in the sun this summer.

  • Climbing

The outdoor activity centre has both indoor and outdoor climbing walls. The outdoor walls have recently been upgraded and include one at 45-feet high, close to Olympic height, and another at 25-feet high. Whether success is measured by reaching the top and ringing the bell, or simply challenging yourself by getting off the ground, climbing is a great activity for all. There are no time limits and you will have the help of a trained climber who will assist you every step of the way up. The exhilaration of reaching the top and looking down is an unforgettable adrenaline rush.

  • Kayaking and Canoeing

Walesby Forest has its own lake at the top end of the site, perfect for trying your hand at canoeing or kayaking. The waters are waist deep so even the smallest of adventurers can enjoy the activity, and, to ensure that the outdoor action takes place in a safe, low-pressure environment, a friendly and experienced team of dedicated instructors are on-hand at all times.

  •  Archery

If you’re after something completely different, archery is an activity all about precision, listening to advice and the coaching of the instructors, managing your breathing, and getting in the zone. It requires a completely different skill set to your more physical activities and with the expert help on hand you will learn how to hit the target within minutes of trying. There are no guarantees that you will hit the bullseye, but practice makes perfect.

Make summer 2024 special at Walesby Forest

All three of these activities, and many more, are available at Walesby Forest this summer. We offer a full day and half-day of activities with different options in the morning and afternoon. The programme of activities is published on our website so you can pick and choose the best day for you.  Bring a picnic or enjoy the onsite bar and restaurant if you want to stay for lunch, but best of all come out and enjoy the green space and have quality time with your friends and family.
